Slim for Spring

Hey style choicers! I'm going to be starting a one month series called slim for spring. Ok, Christmas and Valentines day are gone now, so no more boxes of chocolate! I find that March is a good month to work on getting in shape. I'm going to be spending all of March working on eating healthy and doing plenty of exercise. I'm going to be giving you the tips I'm using this month. Please note, the name does NOT imply that you should be skipping meals or anything. I'm simply using it because we're using spring as a motivation. Being stick thin is not what we're aiming for, so please remember that!

  • Set yourself an exercise routine. Whether it's a zumba class or an hour of the same games on the Wii fit, whatever you do to lose weight, stick to it. Other suggestions are doing 30 minutes on an exercise machine or going on a jog. Make a schedule, so that you're doing the same exercises each week, but vary the kind of exercise within days, e.g. Monday = Taking a jog, Tuesday = Zumba etc.
  • Drink lots of water. Water helps to purify your system and will help you feel satisfied and fresh instead of eating a chocolate bar.
  • Don't skip meals. Skipping meals causes you to GAIN weight! Make sure that every day you're eating everything you need to in order to stay healthy. E.g. Fruit and veg, carbohydrates, dairy etc.
  • Replace not remove! Instead of taking out all snacks, replace them with healthier ones. Instead of taking out your breakfast, replace your cereal with a fruit salad.
  • Join an active club that you enjoy and attend at least once a week. E.g. Dance, sports or a gym.
  • Don't set yourself high goals. Pace yourself.

So leave me a comment below if you're going to participate in slim for Spring, and keep me posted on your progress so that I know what kind of tips to give next!

Why is having good friends important?

Hi style choicers! Today, I'm going to be talking about friends. I've just been thinking lately how much I appreciate my friends, but I realised some people really don't feel like this. Sometimes, we go through a day without once thinking: "I'm so glad that I have these friends around me," but I try to tell myself that every single day, because what kind of people would we be if we didn't surround ourselves with people who cared for us? If you're not happy with your friends, change them! Friends are people who are there for you everyday. They're the people you turn to for advice about guys, or self-esteem, or home problems, or whatever else! I know that if I didn't have the friends I've got, life wouldn't be near as great, because they make me laugh every single day! We all need that person in our lives who makes us smile even when we feel terrible, so tomorrow when you go to school or work or wherever you go, when you see your friends, appriciate them, because think about it:
Where would you be without them?

Oscars - Best dressed award

Hiya Style Choicers! I'm just doing a little mini post today, just to tell you who (in my opinion) was the best dressed girl at the Academy Awards. I've got to say, white and black were the big colours, and sequins were really really popular!

My favourite outfit was Giuliana Rancic. Even though she's not actually an actress, I just fell in love with her dress! I loved the detailing at the back!

Dealing with mean people

Hey style choicers! Today I'm going to be talking about something everybody can relate to. I know how it feels to have someone be just plain mean to you. Everyone has those times where you just think: "What person in the right mind thinks it's ok to act like that?" and it's even worse when that person is doing something wrong to you, and even when it's over, you just feel horrible. I've had those times recently, and I wanted to tell you how I deal with it so that next time, you can cheer yourself up too.

  • Tell someone. Don't annoy them by frequently complaining about it, but if somebody (Whether you know them or not) does something to make you sad or angry or annoyed, just tell anybody. A sibling, a friend or a parent, it doesn't matter who you tell, but they'll be there to help you feel better.
  • Don't do mean things to other people. Sometimes, when people do something to make us angry, we go and do something to someone else, but don't carry on the cycle! Chances are, if you do something rude to somebody else, it'll only make you feel guilty instead of feeling better.
  • Smile at the people who mistreat you. If say someone pushes infront of you, next time they look at you, just smile at them. It'll make them regret what they've done to you most likely.
  • Follow your conscience, not your instinct. Your conscience would tell you to ask them politely to not do that again, your instinct would tell you to start an argument.
  • Don't judge them. Our initial reaction is to always think they're a horrible person, but you never know, behind the scenes, they could be having serious family problems and the only reason they act that way is because it helps ease the pain, so don't be too quick to call them a terrible person.

Confessions of a Shoeaholic!

Hey style choicers! I decided to do the youtube tag 'Confessions of a shoeaholic' right here on Style Choice! I know this is my second day of shoe posts, but I promise you, tomorrow will be something different. Please let me know if you want me to do more tags! And if you want, feel free to do the tag in the comments below!

1. Heels or flats?

I love heels, I'm a sucker for a pair of killer heels, but I do tend to wear alot of flats, just for comfort etc. I'm also a big fan of wedges.

2. What are your go-to shoes?

I have 2, sorry if thats cheating! But it really depends on the outfit.
£24.99 from New Look
£24.99 from New Look

3. What's your favourite shoe trend?

I love loafers, sadly, I haven't got my hands on a pair yet! I'm dying for a pair of loafers in coral pink or turquiose!

4. What's your least favourite shoe trend?

I've got to say, I'm really not a fan of the 'flatform shoes' that have come along. They seem to 70's for my taste.

5. What's your most expensive shoe?

Well, I'm not a big splurger when it comes to shoes alot of the time. Most of my shoes range from £15-£30, but my most expensive shoes I own are my converse.
(Prices vary, can be sold from lots of different stores)

6. What are your most wanted pair?

I am dying for a pair of Christian Louboutin's. They're so expensive, but they're so gorgeous! It's on my list of goals to own a pair of shoes that cost more than £200. (But quite low down on the list, I'm not shallow!)

7. What's your most embarresing shoe story?

Well this doesn't have much to do with the actual shoe, but I'll always remember this because my friends and I love to look back at this and always have a bit of a chuckle. When I was in my first year of senior school (Thats middle school in America) I'd just bought some new shoes, and I was still breaking them in, so my feet were in alot of pain, so I took them off. It was a nice dry summer day, and me and my friends were the only people who hung out in that area during lunch time, so I didn't think it would be a problem. Then, two of my friends decided to play catch with my shoe. It started off as just a harmful game, but then one of them accidently threw my shoe on a roof of a (luckily) one story building. My friends then decided to drag over a trash can, and were planning to stand on that to try to get it back, but a teacher walked past and told them off. Then they tried standing on eachothers shoulders. Another fail. We ended up having to get site management to get a ladder and get it down for me. Good times =D

8. Pick a shoe and tell a story.

This is a story about the black lace up wedge boots that I showed you a picture of earlier. I asked for a pair of boots for Christmas from my parents, but my mom didn't know what colour to get me in the boots she found that she thought I'd like (They came in black, brown and grey.) She was completely stumped, but then later on, I didn't realise she was going to get me the boots, and I went to her that evening: "I really need a pair of black ankle boots to match this outfit!" and so she got me the black. That was the most boring story ever, but I couldn't think of a better one to be honest.

9. How many pairs of shoes do you own?

Probably around 20, but I'm not in the mood to count specifics.

10.  When was the first time you wore heels?

When I was 3-7, I used to love wearing my moms shoes around the house. I've always been a bit of a girly girl, and I always dreamed of the day I'd get my own pair of heels. The first day I wore a pair of heels that actually fit me was when I was 11, I got a pair of kitten heels for Christmas. I was so excited at the time ☺

11. How much do you spend on shoes?

I answered this earlier but I'll answer again. Usually around £15-£30.

12. Where are your favourite places to buy shoes?

New Look, Salt & Pepper (4feetshoes.com), other than that I like to do research and look at lots of different places for shoes, because that way, you can look further than a few stores to find the perfect shoes in the perfect price.

13. Do you have a pair of shoes you regret purchasing?

Yeah, I purchased a pair of grey ankle boots, but they're so hard to wear! They're adorable, but not practical for everyday use because I don't wear much grey.

14. Show your favourite pair of shoes.

Christian Siriano (For Payless) I bought them in America for $49 on my yearly visit. Converted into pounds that is £31.27, which is over my very low limit, but I wear them really often.

Review: Salt & Pepper 'Gwen' Sandals

Hey style choicers! I'm thinking about starting to review clothes, accessories and shoes that I've bought recently and so this is my little tester, so tell me what you think!

I ordered these shoes from 4feetshoes.com for £11.95, but right after I ordered them, the price rose to £19.95, not quite sure why though. The shoes are made from faux leather, and the sole looks like wood, but is softer on the feet, and I'm not certain on what it's made for.

Quality:
As the shoes came in the mail today, I'm not sure about how long they'd hold up, but by the looks of it, the shoes are very good quality, and come with an extra heel just in case

Comfort:
When trying the shoes on, they were so comfortable! I expected them not to feel as good as they looked, but the shoes proved me wrong! They were so comfortable when I tried them on and I was pleasantly surprised.

Fitting and style:
The shoes looked amazing when they arrived, and when I tried them on, I was just as happy. The only thing I'd say is that I wish the laces ended a bit further towards the end of the foot, as they do seem to stop right as the toes start, which might not suit your feet perfectly, but they are still great shoes. They have some adorable little details, like 2 small bronze studs at the back, the overlapping triangles up the sides, and the subtle wedge.

Overall:
These shoes are great for the Spring and Summer, and I would deffinately recommend them!
9/10

The best pancake toppers

Hi style choicers! In the UK and Canada, it's pancake day today. The tradition started when people wanted to use up all of their ingredients before lent, so that they weren't tempted to eat them. Even if you don't celebrate pancake day, everyone enjoys pancakes (Crepes.) There are so many topping choices, but these are my favourites:

The banana split:
Slice some thin slices of banana and place then in a line across the middle of the pancake
Add some chocolate syrup, just spread it in a line ontop of the banana slices
Scoop some vanilla ice cream on top of the other toppings
Roll your up pancake and enjoy!

The cosy fire-side pancake:
(Named this because it tastes so yummy and makes you imagine you were cuddled by the fire in some fuzzy slippers)
Peel and slice an apple and add it into a pot
Sprinkle some cinnamon on the apples and leave them on the stove on a middle setting for about 10 minutes
When they're done, line them up across your pancake in the center
Add maple syrup across the tops of the apple
Roll up as before and enjoy!

Sweet and sour... pancakes?:
(A simple, easy and popular one, but I just had to include it!)
Add a teaspoon of sugar spread around your pancake
Take some lemon juice (Either packaged or squeezed from lemons yourself for a healthier and more natural tasting pancake) and squirt it over the sugar so that the sugar appears dissolved, but make sure you get the balance right!
Roll your pancake and enjoy!

Accepting (And defeating) Sickness

Hey style choicers! I feel so unhealthy at the moment! My body is really good at avoiding bugs, viruses, etc, but lately, I've been not great at all! Between my knee a few weeks ago, a cold up until last Tuesday, and now, I have the flu! I've had to try and make sure that my illnesses don't bring me down, so I've been trying to keep positive, and everyone gets sick sometimes, so I'll be giving you my tips on how to keep a smile on your face, even when you body isn't so great!

  • Listen to your body! If your body is telling you that you need sugar (You'll know this if you start getting the shakes when you aren't cold), go get a bar of chocolate are something, even if you're on a diet! If your body needs some medicine, no matter how horrible it is, just take it! (Don't deny it, even adults hate their medicine!)
  • Rest. Sometimes it's not the best idea to take off work or have a day off school, but if you really know that you aren't well enough to leave the house, spend the day in bed or snuggled up on the couch, and don't push yourself to do anything physical, but if it's a cold or a headache, and you think you should go to work/school, then bring medicine, keep yourself positive, and when you get home, treat yourself to some relaxation.
  • Visit a docter. Sometimes, we can be so afraid to see a docter, no matter how old we are, because we're scared. Most of the time, we don't have a reason to be scared at all, we're just scared. If you know that you really need to see a doctor though (If you've been like that for more than 4 days) then go! Don't think "Whats the worst that can happen?" because then your mind will think up all these horrible things. Think "Whats the best that can happen?" and the answer is: The doctor will give you some medicine that you can take which will make you feel better!
  • Keep yourself thinking positive. Don't sit there thinking about how horrible you feel, just remind yourself that everyone has these times, and soon, it'll pass over!

Now whether your sick or not, when you are, just come back to this post and read it over so you can still be happy, even when your body disagrees!

Being a trend setter, not a fashion follower!

Hey Style choicers! Today, I'm going to be giving some tips on how to take trendy and mainstream pieces, but making them your own. I'll show you how to achieve a look that nobody else is achieving, and make it look trendy all the same! You'd be surprised, sometimes, people actually do follow the trends you set, but everyone has their own personal style, so you should always change up your looks to follow your own taste.

1. Add your own accessories. Take a simple piece, like a cute LBD (little black dress) and add accessories that are your own personal style. Use colours and styles that reflect your personality, such as:
If you're a confident and bold person, use a brightly coloured statement necklace.
If you're a shy and subtle kind of girl, accessorise with a delicate silver piece of jewellery and a satin clutch.
If you're flirty and romantic, go for pinks, reds and purples with some statement earrings and an adorable handbag.

2. Add a twist to a mainstream trend. Break the 'fashion rules' and wear the newest trend in a completely different way.
Using candy colours as an example, say your wearing coral pink skinny jeans, instead of predictably pairing it with a chiffon blouse, pair the outfit with a turquiose tank top, so that you're breaking the rule of one stand-out colour, and then pair the outfit with simple black or brown accessories. This way, you're using the trend, but still breaking the normal mainstream style.
Another example is animal prints, but break the rule of wearing pattern on only one piece. Obviously you don't want to end up looking TOO out there, so wear one neutral coloured animal print, such as neutral cheetah print skinny jeans, paired with a hairband or clutch in cheetah print.

3. Act the part. If you want to be a trend setter, be confident. Wear your outfit with pride, because if you hunch your back and walk like you're afraid of something, people will never notice what you're wearing, they'll only notice your insecurity, so if you stand tall and walk like you haven't got a care in the world, I promise you, people will look at your outfit, no matter how out there it may be, and think: "Wow, I wish I was able to be so confident, she looks amazing." And there you have people who will use your idea, and turn it into a trend!

TGIF... Or not?

Hey Style choicers! I'm just going to talk about how sometimes, life can seem stressful, and we're 'just getting by' until Friday, so we spend the whole week miserable until it hits Friday, and then on Sunday, we're miserable again because we have to start it all over again. This means that we're unhappy 260 days in a year, and thats more than half of the year. Isn't that depressing? But there are ways to always keep yourself positive! I mean, you're never going to have a year wear you have 365 (Or 366) good days in a year, but you want to be at least close!

1. Smile whenever you can. Sometimes, the only reason you're feeling so down is because you don't have anything making you feel great, but you might not have anything bringing you down either! If you just smile to yourself, or to someone else, no matter who they are, that'll put you in a better mood for the day.

2. Remind yourself how blessed you are. There are some people who don't have any water, any electricity, they don't have supportive people around them, they can't make themselves a good meal, but sometimes we still feel like we've been cheated in life. Sometimes we feel like something or someone is out to get us. We feel like everything in our lives is just bad, and that we are incapable of feeling happy, but if you're reading this, that alone shows me you have access to electricity, you have a roof over your head (Most likely) and thats more than so many people have.

3. When you wake up in the morning, have a motivation to get ready. It could be seeing your friends, it could be that you have drama class, it could be seeing your boyfriend, or it could even be having a delicious dinner to look forward to in the evening. Whatever it is, a motivation keeps you focused and happy all day long, and that'll help you through the day.

4. Make other people happy. Nobody is born without guilt, so I'm sure that if you spend your days scowling at people and putting others down, it pretty much does two things to you: It makes you feel powerful, and it makes you feel guilty, but sooner or later, the powerful feeling will fade away, and you'll just feel guilt. Guilt is one of the strongest feelings a human can have. If you put all your energy into doing favours instead of knocking people down, you'll feel happier, because the guilt that you felt before? That'll be gone, and your self-image will be raised a whole lot. That's because when you're happy, you're beautiful. When you're kind, you're beautiful. And when you're confident, you're beautiful.

So hopefully, after reading this, you'll know how to have 260 GOOD days instead of 260 BAD days. Sound like a good plan?

Micro-Haul and Style Spotter

Hey Style choicers! Sorry for the lack of post yesterday, I was out all day! I went on a shopping trip! I only bought 2 things, but I also spotted a whole bunch of spring trends!

Micro-Haul:
The first item was a purple lace dress at £15 from H&M. Lace dresses are perfect for the spring and summer. Adding a belt and sandals gives you the perfect look. A lace dress can also be paired with skin coloured tights, a cardigan, and some cute boots for the colder weather.

The other item I bought was a coral pink lace open back shell top for £17 from New Look. It's adorable, and I can just imagine myself wearing it at the summer time with a white tank top, some denim shorts, and gladiators. Lace tops are adorable, and I love the colour!

Style spotter:
For the upcoming season, I've been seeing a whole lot of 'Candy colours.' Basically, coral pinks, turquioses, yellows, and other fun and bold colours like that. I'm glad that this year, the trends are bold and fun, so that every morning, you get a burst of happiness when you get dressed.
I've also been seeing lots of different textures and fabrics. Lace, leather, denim, crochet and chiffon have been turning up all around. It's great to mix some of these textures together for a varied look.
Happy shopping!

What to wear for... Valentines Day!

Hi style choicers! Not all girls have a date to share Valentines Day with, but we can all love our family, our friends, our pets, and most of all OURSELVES! I'll be telling you an idea of how to dress yourself for Valentines, and then I'll be telling you ways of treating yourself this Tuesday!

This Valentines Day, you'll want to look cute (So that everytime you look down at your outfit, you feel like you look great) and comfy (You don't want to stress yourself out with hurting feet from skyscraper heels and cold legs from your little skirt!)
Surely there isn't a way to be both? But there is, and yet you can still look festive!

1. Start off with coloured skinny jeans in any shade of pink, purple, or red. These are trendy, comfortable, warm, and festive!
The jeans pictured above are £20 from boohoo.com

2. Next, add a blouse. Make sure in white or cream, and it HAS to be flirty and cute!
The blouse pictured above is £16.75 from Forever 21

3. Wear some adorable heels, but make sure they aren't any higher than 4 inches and that if they're higher heels, that they have a platform! Use some ouch pads too. You want your feet to be nice and comfy all day!
The shoes pictured above are £22 from Asos

4. Accessorise with cute and fun accessories in the same colour as your skinny jeans, but in a different shade. (E.g. Hot pink skinny jeans, lighter pink flower ring)
The ring pictured above was £4 from River Island, but is now sold out, sorry! ♥

If you don't have a date to share your valentines day with, spend it with your friends, your family, or by yourself!
With friends:
You could go shopping together, and eat a meal together in your favourite little restauraunt! It'll remind you how lost you'd be without your girls!
With family:
Go on a day out together! Go to the cinema, go get a lovely meal in a carvery, or just take a trip to the park! No matter what you do though, you'll always be happy with the people who have always been there for you.
By yourself:
Sometimes, it can feel so depressing to be on your own, but there are so many things to do to make you feel serene. You could go to the spa, spend a day at the beach, or sit outside reading, listening to music, drawing, or writing poetry/songs.

Take your favourite girly inspired piece of clothing, whether it's a lace skirt or a chiffon blouse. Basically, anything lace, floral, or chiffon!

Step 3:
Add some cute shoes that are trendy, but neither girly nor tough. E.g. Black suede loafers.

Step 4:
Accessorise! Use accessories that are both tough and feminine. E.g. A pink studded cuff bracelet.

Quick Tip (Non-fashion related): "Fake" nails

Hi style choicers! I apoligize if you're missing the fashion posts, but I've got a couple ideas for when Valentines gets closer. I'm going to tell you how I get my nails to look like fake nails, when they aren't! I'm always having people ask me if I have fake nails on!

1. Instead of cutting your nails every time they grow a tiny bit above your fingertip, file them once a  week and let them grow to a nice length. Let them grow a bit longer without letting them look strange. Make sure you file them to a clean arch shape.
2. Keep your nails healthy. Eat healthy foods, ALWAYS avoid smoking (Because your nails aren't the only things smoking wrecks) and just keep your nails looking nice and white (Yellow nails are a sign of unhealthiness)
3. Keep your nails clean. Make sure you dont get things underneath your nails, always clean your nails with soap when your washing your hands.
4. Paint your nails. You can give yourself a french manicure or just paint them a clean colour, but make sure it looks neat. You dont want gorgeous nails with a messy manicure!
5. For the overall look of elegant hands, keep your hands hydrated with hand cream!

Non-fashion related - Happiness (Without boys)

Hi style choicers! I really felt a message in my heart to write this, because I just had a slight feeling that this would help someone. I don't care who, but if this benefits anybody, I'll be happy. I know that so many girls get to about 13, and just feel like they need a boyfriend in their life. They look at people in amazing relationships, and thing: "Why can't I have that?"
One thing I will say is that even though there's nothing wrong with being in a relationship and it's wonderful if you've found someone who you feel in love with, but if you don't have a boyfriend, it doesn't matter! If you aren't planning on marrying the guy, it'll only count toward heartbreak! You don't need guys to make you feel happy! You have family, friends, pets, or even a hobby like dancing to give you that happiness in your life.
Always remember to say this when you're feeling down (Instead of turning to getting temporary boyfriends): Live, Love, Laugh.
Live- Don't worry about what people think about you! Just be you! You don't need to pretend to be poised and perfect to appeal to anybody, because in 10 years time, who's really going to care?
Love- Love your family and friends and the people around you. You don't need to be in a relationship to love! Just be kind and considerate to all the people around you. Smile, hold open doors, let people pass you. Just these little things will make you a happier person, because you probably made somebody's day!
Laugh- You can let out a giggle when you come across the little joys of life, or you could laugh until you cry when you trip in front of your friends! Laughing always makes you feel better!

And there were my little tips on how to make yourself feel happy, even if you don't have a boy in your life!

What to wear for... Schools with uniform

Hi style choicers! Today, I'm talking about what to wear for shoes and accessories with a school uniform, because sometimes I know it can be hard to express your personal style without breaking school rules. I'll also do a 'WTWF' for schools without a uniform.

1. Wear original earrings! Alot of schools will only let you wear studs, but that doesn't mean you can't wear some cute statement studs, or studs that represent the way you dress!

 2. Wear stylish school shoes. I know you usually have to wear black practical shoes, but theres nothing stopping you from wearing black brogues, black loafers, black studded ballet flats, whatever you like which is still cute and stylish, but also black and practical!
(The ballet flats above are by Miss KG)

3. Carry an adorable bag. You can be expressive with your bag, because usually there aren't too many restricitions when it comes to bags. Carry a patterened tote bag or a colourful patent leather bag, or something else that suits your style!
